At the age of 14, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It hit me so hard but to be honest, I didn’t really even fully understand how life would be changed forever. But it was. Going through my teen years in high school and college as someone living with T1D was a struggle, but I never let it stop me from accomplishing anything I ever wanted to. I did constantly truly struggle with the way I felt, though.


I also struggled with my weight. I struggled with my mood. I struggled with my energy. I struggled with my blood sugars. And I really struggled with sugar cravings. You could say the struggle was real.


In 2010 I became a mother for the first time. And I am now a mother of four! As a new mom trying to juggle it all, I felt that I was always tired. There never seemed to be enough coffee or diet coke to keep me going. I was crashing mid afternoon and always needed a 10 minute power nap. And it would have been easy to just blame it on ‘mom life’ or my diabetes, but that just didn’t feel good to me.I would think to myself, "Was this how life was supposed to be? Always feeling tired and exhausted?" I knew I needed a big change.

So I decided and finally made it my mission to feel better once and for all. I simply didn’t want to be that mom who was exhausted all the time. I wanted to stop making excuses. I knew there was a better way. Empowered with my pure desire to feel better and to be in control of how I felt, I shifted. Everything.

Having diabetes is more than counting carbs and exercise. It’s a lifestyle that encompasses many aspects- mindset, focus and community. Through trial and error, seeking out nutritionists, other diabetes health professionals, mental health professionals, and heavily researching effective products and networking with others who understood my struggles, I finally felt supported and gained the tools I needed to reach my goals. I worked on my mindset. I found my support system. I found my routine and I found my energy (and joy!) again.
